Fellow children of the 80s, prepare to have your minds blown, ninja-style! The classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon opening just got the stop motion treatment and it is nothing short of radical!
The project, a collaboration between stop motion extraordinaire Kyle Roberts, artist Nathan Poppe and Oklahoma native band, The Boom Bang, was created with over 4,000 individual pictures featuring hand drawn backgrounds and custom TMNT action figures.
The project was sponsored by the Toy and Action Figure Museum and Kyle tells me via email that “one other cool side to this project is the curator of the Action Figure Museum Kevin Stark was the lead art designer of the TMNT toys we know from the early 90s!” Sweet!
Grab a slice of pizza (did somebody say pizza?!) and check out the stop motion-ized version of the TMNT opening below and click here to watch the original for comparison. Oh, and be sure to click on the annotation at the end to check out the amazing “making of” video! Like The Boom Bang’s cover of the TMNT theme? Download it on the band’s website.
