Don’t have plans for tonight? Why not stay in and watch the star-studded reading of Academy Award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black’s (Milk) latest play, 8, on YouTube?
The play, which is being directed by Rob Reiner, is all about marriage equality and the Proposition 8 trial. Rob Reiner writes on the YouTube blog that 8 “is an account of the case filed by the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) in the U.S. District Court in 2010 to overturn Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment that eliminated the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. Framed around the trial’s historic closing arguments in June 2010, 8 provides an intimate look at what unfolded when the issue of same-sex marriage was put on trial in the U.S.”
The reading, which streams live tonight, will feature Reiner along with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen, John C. Reilly, Kevin Bacon, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Jamie Lee Curtis and others. Reiner jokes, “You see, we had a problem…we couldn’t find any famous people to be in the play.”
Tune in to watch the pre-show at 7:30pm PT and the performance at 7:45pm PT at youtube.com/americanequalrights. Will you be watching tonight?
