YouTube wants to know, “Do you have what it takes to be the ‘Next’ great YouTube Vlogger?”
As part of their Next Creator Program, which has uncovered talent in a variety of niches already with programs like YouTube Next Trainer and YouTube Next Chef, they are goin’ old school and searching for talent in one of YouTube’s oldest niches–the vlogosphere. Video blogging, or vlogging, is one of the easiest ways to make content on YouTube. YouTube Creator Program Managers Austin Lau and Bing Chen explain that vlogs are “one of the few types of videos that literally anyone can create: all you have to do is sit in front of a camera, share words of wisdom (okay, wisdom not always required), and upload the video.”
When YouTube reached out to creators to find out what kind of content they should tackle as their next Next Creator Program, creators responded with a resounding “Vlogs!” So here we are. You can apply to the YouTube Next Vlogger program on the Creator Hub. To apply you must be based in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, or the United States. 16 lucky vloggers will win.
What do you get if you are selected for the YouTube Next Vlogger program? Lau and Chen write, “Each vlogger will receive $5,000 worth of video equipment and more than $10,000 worth of promotion on and off YouTube. Participants will also receive mentoring from industry experts, such as iJustine, one of the most successful vloggers and content creators on YouTube!”
Update: Note that in order to qualify you must “have at least 5,000 subscribers on March 21, 2012 and/or at least 1,000,000 total videos views all-time for your Channel on March 21, 2012.”
